So, Zuri walked through the night, the stars and moon guiding her path. She didn’t know where she was going, but she felt a strange peace in her heart, trusting that the voice she heard would lead her to her destination. The journey was silent except for the occasional rustling of trees and the distant call of animals in the night. The cool breeze carried with it the scent of damp earth and the sound of water flowing gently in the distance.

A Journey of Faith and Courage – The Story of Zuri – Part 2

As dawn approached, Zuri found herself once again by the river, the same river where she had first heard the voice. She knelt by the water, cupping it in her hands and drinking deeply. Exhausted but determined, she sat down by the riverbank, closing her eyes to rest for a moment. Her thoughts wandered back to her family, to her grandmother’s prophecy, and to the wooden cross now hanging around her neck.

Suddenly, a noise startled her awake. Footsteps approached, soft but deliberate. Zuri’s heart raced as she looked up to see a figure standing a few feet away—a man, tall and lean, wearing a simple robe. His skin was dark, and his face was lined with age, but his eyes were kind, filled with wisdom and peace.

“Peace be with you, sister,” he said, his voice calm and soothing. “Why do you sit here alone by the river?”

Zuri hesitated, unsure whether to trust this stranger, but something about him put her at ease. “I am seeking the voice of God,” she replied. “He called me to follow Him, but I don’t know where to go.”

The man nodded as if he understood. He sat down beside her, looking out over the water. “God often speaks to us in ways we do not fully understand. But you are not lost, Zuri. You are exactly where you are meant to be.”

“How do you know my name?” Zuri asked, her eyes widening.

Zuri stared at him in awe. “Who are you?”

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son[a] from the Father, full of grace and truth.” –  John 1:14 (ESV) The Divine Visitation by the River

“My name is Joseph,” he said. “I am a traveller, like you, seeking to spread the good news of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I have wandered many lands, sharing His message of hope and salvation. And now, I have been led here to you.”

Zuri felt a deep sense of peace as she listened to Joseph. She had heard of Jesus before, from distant travellers passing through her village, but she had never truly understood who He was. “Tell me about Jesus,” she said, eager to learn.

Joseph began to speak, his voice filled with passion and reverence. He told her of the birth of Jesus, the miracles He performed, and His teachings about love, forgiveness, and faith. He spoke of His death on the cross and how He rose from the grave, defeating death so that all who believe in Him might have eternal life. As Joseph spoke, Zuri’s heart burned within her as if the very words of God were being planted in her soul.

“The same God who created the heavens and the earth loves you, Zuri,” Joseph said, his eyes locking onto hers. “He has a plan for your life, a purpose that only you can fulfil. You were not called by chance; God Himself chose you to be a light to your people.”

Zuri felt tears stream down her face. The truth of what Joseph was saying pierced her heart. She realized that the voice she had heard was not just a call to follow but a call to transformation—a call to share the love of Christ with her people.

“I want to know Him,” she whispered, her voice trembling. “I want to follow Jesus.”

Joseph smiled. “Then let us pray together.”

They knelt by the riverbank, and as Joseph led her in prayer, Zuri felt a deep sense of peace wash over her like the waters of the river flowing gently into her soul. She gave her heart to Jesus that day, vowing to follow Him wherever He led her. Zuri knew her journey was just beginning, and the path ahead would not be easy, but she was no longer afraid. She was no longer alone.

As they finished praying, Joseph placed his hand on her shoulder. “Now, you must go back to your village,” he said. “There are people there who need to hear the message of Christ. You are the one God has chosen to bring it to them.”

Zuri nodded, her heart filled with purpose. She rose to her feet, her eyes fixed on the road that led back to her village. She was ready to share the light of Christ, ready to fulfill the calling that had been placed upon her.

And with that, she began the journey home.
