Passing Judgment on Others… 

 “Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye?Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”

Judging others means creating a negative idea about them. For instance you might decide that your next door neighbor is useless as a parent as she is said to spoil her children or opts not to discipline them.

If you realize that you are using up more time passing judgment on others than dwelling on your own personal life, you might be ‘copping out’ and avoiding to deal with your own problems which can be easily resolved.

Think of these factors to help you rid the need of passing judgment on others. 

1.  Do not dwell on negative factors – dwelling on the negative affects your emotional being in unwanted ways. When you think negatively, this makes you view life in a more pessimistic manner. In summary, when you judge others this impacts negatively on you.

3.  You may not have confidence in yourself – if you strain to have faith in yourself, you might be portraying these uncertainties to others to avoid dealing with your personal problems.

4.  Passing Judgment on others might imply that you want to manipulate the situation – do you think that others should act exactly like you, respond to situations in the same manner as you and feel like you? In case this is the case, what is your reason for thinking this way?

5.  Analyze the length of time and energy you spend concentrating on your personal character flaws – all of us have something which requires to be changed. Analyzing your interior self carefully enhances self-understanding. It also assists you to recognize the things you want to alter rather than spending your energy and time passing judgment on others.

10.  Know when it is all right to acknowledge irritating behavior in others – it is vital to remember that there are circumstances when it is advisable to recognize things in others which worry you.

  • You might be considering forging a friendship with someone. However, you notice them behaving in a certain manner you disapprove of. Your instincts may tell you to desist from going after the friendship.
  • At such times, listen to that interior judge. Simply avoid passing judgment on or criticizing others too excessively.
